Oakland is still recovering from the March 14, 2008 tornado that swept through Atlanta, destroying much in its path, although it’s hard to tell. The major repairs and restoration work were completed last year, but a lot of work will still need to completed this year before the FEMA deadline of October 14 ... There were 284 toppled (not broken) grave markers that have been repaired and 72 toppled and broken grave markers that are being repaired now. FEMA will cover the cost to repair these
This year’s BATL event commemorating the historic Battle of Atlanta that took place in the neighborhoods of southeast Atlanta will be back this year with more living history action and a rare opportunity to get inside of the famous East Lake Golf Club. Plans are still being finalized and firmed up for the weekend of July 17th through the 19th. BATL has always been held around the weekend nearest the date of the actual battle on July 22nd.
