Keywords:(WSB Radio) A man who exchanged gunfire with a security guard at a southwest Atlanta McDonald's is hospitalized in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the lower torso.
If he survives, the suspect faces multiple charges, including attempted armed robbery and aggravated assault.
The shootout happened around 7 o'clock Wednesday night at the fast food restaurant on Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard.
At one point during the holdup, the suspect allegedly held a gun to the head of a teenage customer. She was not hurt. Atlanta police confirm numerous patrons were inside the business when the shooting started.
The security guard, who initially tried to to talk the man into surrendering, was shot in the arm and neck. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Both men are being treated at Grady Memorial Hospital.
The same McDonald's was the scene of another crime earlier this week. On Monday, someone attempted to rob a cashier at gunpoint. The suspect left empty handed, apparently scared off when the manager came to the front counter.
