ATHENS, Ga. (AP) The University of Georgia's chapter of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity is facing suspension over an accusation that a pledge was injured when he was paddled.
The father of a pledge wrote to the university's Greek Life office in February, saying his son received a potentially dangerous blood clot and had to seek a doctor's care.
UGA's Interfraternity Council suspended Pi Kappa Phi on Feb. 17, meaning it can't have any social, alumni or new member education activities until further notice.
Brandon Frye, UGA assistant dean of students, also directed the fraternity to suspend formal activities.
Mark Timmes, the fraternity's national chief executive officer, has proposed a number of sanctions, but he's questioned whether the severity of the paddling was exaggerated.
